Spondylosis Treatment

Spondylosis is a combination of degeneration conditions that can affect the spine as you age. These conditions usually involve the degeneration of cartilage and other soft tissues in the spine, such as spinal osteoarthritis. People often seek treatment for spondylosis when they begin experiencing pain or mobility issues due to complications from their condition. At Atlanta Spine & Orthopaedics, Dr. Bhatti and the rest of our team offer effective treatmentsto manage the symptoms of spondylosis.

What are the Symptoms and Causes of Spondylosis?

Spondylosis is a degenerative condition that is caused primarily by aging. However, there are factors such as genetics, excessive body weight and spinal injuries due to trauma or sports that can impact the likelihood of spondylosis. Many people may not even be aware that they have spondylosis unless it begins to impact their mobility or causes pain. Spondylosis is most likely to occur in either the cervical (neck) or lumbar (lower back) regions of the spine, as they undergo the most stress.

Symptoms occur when spondylosis progresses to the point that nerves are put under pressure or the spinal joints stiffen. As the cartilage and soft tissues deteriorate, there is more friction in between the spinal joints, leading to a higher possibility of bone spurs, inflammation and pinched nerves. Localized pain, nerve pain to the upper or lower extremities and reduced mobility are common symptoms.

In most cases, spondylosis treatments should be approached on an as-needed basis. Physical therapy, medications and spinal injections can help manage most symptoms. However, this degeneration process can lead to more severe issues that may benefit from surgical treatments.

If you have been diagnosed with spondylosis or are experiencing symptoms of pain, reduced mobility or muscle weakness in your neck or back, contact Atlanta Spine & Orthopaedics today. We can schedule an appointment for a consultation with Dr. Bhatti and find a treatment solution to improve your symptoms.
